Rose’s Story: A Testament to Faith and Partnership

In the heart of Kiburine, Meru County, 72-year-old Rose Kathira had learned to live in a world of shadows. Over the years, her eyesight had gradually turned blurry, dimming the vibrant world around her. Like so many in her community, the specialized eye care she desperately needed was out of reach—a distant 20-kilometer journey to the government hospital and an expense she simply could not afford.

Life had not been easy for Rose. With her vision failing, she could no longer do the menial jobs that once sustained her. The cost of medical insurance became an impossible burden. Her husband, who had already lost one eye, faced his own battle with a mature cataract in his other eye, threatening to plunge him into total blindness.

Driven by unwavering faith, Rose heard a whisper of hope: a Halo Vision medical camp was coming to her neighbourhood. Filled with hope, she made the journey to the camp site, trusting she would find help.

Our medical team confirmed what Rose had long feared: mature cataracts in both eyes, complicated by a history of high blood pressure. But this time, the diagnosis came with a clear path forward. Halo Vision immediately booked her for a referral to our partner hospital.

After thorough screening ensured she was ready, Halo Vision paid for Rose's national insurance in full, removing the final financial barrier. On Friday, October 3rd 2025, the miracle she prayed for happened: surgeons successfully removed the cataract from her first eye.

Waking up to a world coming back into focus, an overjoyed Rose exclaimed, “I’ve never felt this excited before, to know that I will soon be able to see again! Glory be to God!”

With more resources, we can provide essential tools like pairs of glasses, vital eye medication, and critical diagnostic equipment to make our work even more impactful.

Your Gift's Direct Impact:

  • $10 covers a comprehensive eye exam for one person.

  • $50 can provide a pair of prescription glasses, bringing the world into sharp focus.

  • $200 can cover a life-changing cataract surgery, just like Rose’s, that restores independence.

The need is great, but our collective faith is greater. Rose’s husband and many others are still waiting for their miracle.
