Bringing Sight to Thinyaine: Halo Vision’s Medical Camp Success

August 1, 2025 – In the quiet, highland village of Thinyaine, Tigania West, Kenya, access to basic eye care has long been a challenge. Located in Akithii County Assembly Ward, this remote community—along with neighboring villages like Mweronkanga, Limbine, Maanthi, and Karii—struggles with limited healthcare infrastructure and widespread poverty.
A Community in Need
According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2013 report, Tigania West Constituency is home to 135,980 people, most of whom rely on subsistence farming. With scarce economic opportunities, many families live below the poverty line, making healthcare a luxury rather than a given.
The Miathene Level 4 Hospital, the area’s main health facility, is often too far for Thinyaine residents to reach easily. For specialized eye care, patients must travel 15 kilometers to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital—a journey that is costly and impractical for many.
A Day of Hope: Halo Vision’s Medical Camp
On August 1, 2025, Halo Vision brought critical eye care services directly to Thinyaine, offering free screenings and treatment to an eager crowd. The impact was profound:
✅ 380 patients screened for vision problems
✅ 20 cataract cases detected
✅ 9 glaucoma cases identified
✅ 120 reading glasses distributed
Those diagnosed with cataracts and glaucoma were referred to partner hospitals for further treatment—giving them a real chance at restored sight.
